16th December 2014
Over 200 people enjoyed our Christmas event in early December. The cold weather didn’t deter locals from getting into the festive spirit.
Arts & crafts workshops, where young people made lanterns and Christmas cards, and Christmas themed face paintings warmed the young people up before the elves welcomed them through the grotto to get a photo and present from Santa himself.
Hot drinks and seasonal snacks were served throughout as families and after schools clubs from both Suffolk and Lenadoon mingled, and the excellent Malone College choir bellowed out traditional carols along with songs from Frozen and other topical tunes.
Our special guests were Deputy Lord Mayor Maire Hendron and Commonwealth Boxing medallists Michaela Walsh. Both ladies shared the duties of turning on the impressive Christmas tree lights symbolising the start of the festive season.
The event would not have been possible without our committed volunteers who assumed various roles to ensure for a smooth delivery and enjoyable evening for all attendees.
Special thanks to event sponsors Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) and Stewartstown Road Regeneration Project (SRRP). Also The Coffee House, Murphys Blinds, Oasis Caring in Action, and Costcutters for their kind donations.
